Tarawera The Burnt Spear
Mount Tarawera is a volcano on the North Island of New Zealand. The word Tarawere is the Maori native language for the meaning burnt spear. Located 24 kilometres southeast of Rotorua, it consists of a series of rhyolitic lava domes that were a deep incave fissured down the middle was created by an explosive basaltic eruption in 1886. This eruption was one of New Zealand's largest historical eruptions. The bright beautiful colours are ideal for a painting of this nature and really encapsulates the beauty of this area and the connection or bond the land has with its people.
